Iaijutsu is a 2D, side scrolling action game that merges cyberpunk aesthetics with samurai culture with a focus on tense, acrobatic sword duels that emphasize lethality, precision and mobility. The player controls a mysterious ronin, navigating the rooftops and alleys of a rainy city as they are hunted by a team of elite assassins.

Iaijutsu Project has been developed over the course of 9 months, early July to mid April, with a core team of six developers. The passion project was originally inspired by games such as StriderSuper Meat Boy, and Katana Zero. Over 400 Jira tasks later, we have an action platformer that allows you to dash attack your way across neon lit rooftops to the sounds of classic Japanese instruments like the Taiko drum with an infusion of modern hip-hop. We each put in hundreds of hours to make blood spill and sparks fly when swords clash. We met every Tuesday, working tirelessly in-between our other classes to produce this product for free. We hope to make it even better in the near future with more updates and bug fixes. You can learn more about the game, the team, and the development process in our retrospectives.
